Brands we service in Solana Beach
Sub-Zero is the name on the door, but the run of cabinetry it sits in usually carries three other badges, and in a paneled Solana Beach kitchen you often cannot tell which is which from across the room.
The division in these kitchens is consistent: Sub-Zero holds the cold, Wolf holds the heat. Wolf builds ranges, rangetops, wall ovens and cooktops and has never built refrigeration, so a Wolf kitchen always has another badge keeping the food. That matters for diagnosis, because the two halves fail along completely different lines. Refrigeration goes wrong through air: an exhaust route capped above the doors, a coil matted with salt-bearing dust, a defrost cycle that no longer finishes. Cooking equipment goes wrong through ignition and calibration: a spark module that clicks without lighting, a burner cap seated a millimeter out of position, an oven sensor that has drifted so the control heats faithfully to the wrong number.
Which of the other two names turns up mostly depends on when the kitchen was last done. Viking belongs to the earlier round of remodels here, professional ranges, rangetops and built-in refrigeration, with glow-bar igniters, oven thermostats and heavy door hardware as the parts that wear. Thermador comes with the newer work and brings the most electronics of any line in these kitchens: induction, steam ovens and refrigeration columns that all report through sensors and boards. On Thermador the fault code names a component, and that component gets tested before it gets replaced, because a sensor returning a strange value is often describing a real condition somewhere else in the appliance.

By appliance instead
The wine column in our bar read 55 on the front the whole time while the bottles sat closer to 60. Upper zone was the problem, lower one was fine. He put a probe in the racks instead of trusting the panel and it came down to a damper.
Cubes had been getting smaller and hollow for months and the bin never filled overnight anymore. Turned out to be two things: scale at the valve from our water, and the decorative toe kick the cabinetmaker ran across the front of the bar sealing off the grille.
Two other outfits had been out for the ice packing into the freezer drawers in our island and both wanted to replace parts. This one tested the heater, found it fine, and showed me the drawer front sitting out of square so the seal was only touching along the top.
